Instituto de Ciencias Matemáticas, Madrid, España

The Instituto de Ciencias Matemáticas (ICMAT – Institute for Mathematical Sciences) is a research center set up by the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC – Higher Council for Scientific Research) and three universities in Madrid: Autónoma University (UAM), Carlos III University (UC3M)and Complutense University (UCM). Its main objective is to promote high-quality mathematical research and interdisciplinary research. It is one of the 13 Spanish centers participating in the Severo Ochoa excellence program, which shows the high quality of its research project. In addition, its researchers have been awarded eight of the prestigious European Research Council’s grants, in the ‘Starting’ and ‘Consolidator’ categories.

The ICMAT has a social commitment to popularizing mathematics and carries out various initiatives through its Mathematical Communication Unit, made up of researchers, disseminators and journalists, aimed at offering current scientific and mathematical literacy topics to both the mathematical community and general audiences.
